Operations Modernization
It is inevitable that time’s passage will erode the underlying integrity of ‘how it gets done’. Earlier successes, often signature achievements upon which the organization successfully grew to its current state, lose their luster. Conditions of their world give rise to new ones and solutions that had stood the tests of time are no longer adequate to the work needing to be done.
Even though every core and supporting function of the business is performing optimally, the many tactical focuses of keeping it going outweigh and sometimes undermine the capability of the team to maintain quality at scale. This can be an outward indicator that pareto conditions have emerged, in which to improve any one area would be at the expense of another’s.
Something hard-earned must give to something new or stagnation follows.
We believe the answer lies in the honest and open collaboration of its primary stakeholders. Start your team off with a retrospective of what the team is, what the business is, what the organization is, and how they are built on and depend upon each other. In that shared context, consider the vulnerabilities that outgrown toolsets, processes and lack of internal expertise introduces in to performance of the business. Strengths and weakness should reveal themselves; opportunities and trade offs for the possible futures that await your business at scale will naturally unfold.
